China’s biggest gay dating app wants to beat Grindr

//Facing censorship and competition at home, Blued has plans to build the world’s largest gay social platform.

But users and researchers own questioned the app’s prospects under its new ownership, given Blued’s past failed attempts to expand into Western markets and the difficulties it will encounter in differentiating itself from competitors abroad. “It’s an uphill battle. The same-sex attracted dating app market in the U.S. is quite saturated,” Lik Sam Chan, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong who researches the politics of dating apps in China, told Recover of World. “I don’t see Blued offering anything unique that other existing international gay apps act not provide.”

…Blued users lashed out at Geng Le on social media after they found out about the paywall for vanishing photos. He later explained in an online publish that he had already left his job, and was not involved in the decision. Without Geng Le, China’s most prominent gay tech entrepreneur, Blued is losing touch with users in its place market, said Chan, the dating app researcher.//

10 LGBTQ+ dating apps that are actually worth downloading

Love them or hate them, I think we can all approve that dating apps tend to display certain, um, challenges. (See also: frustrations, headaches, and heartaches with a chance of ”I am going to hurl my phone into the nearest gutter if I notice another Tinder bio that says, “Looking for my companion in crime.”) And, unfortch, if you happen to be a person who is seeking literally anything outside of the standard heteronormative script, finding whatever it is you’re looking for on a dating app is that much harder. Your dating website pool seriously shrinks, and less options = less opportunity to meet someone special.

Hence why it's super important as a queer person to make sure you’re downloading virtual dating apps that are LGBTQ+ friendly—so you can be more intentional about who or what you're looking for.

“Today’s LGBTQ+ daters wish to celebrate who they are,” says Michael Kaye, Director of Brand Marketing and Communications at Archer, a (brand eff-ing new!) same-sex attracted dating app. “Queer daters want an app that understands and values every part of their identity and needs. They also value safe and secure spaces where they can express themselves

What is the best same-sex attracted dating app?

Introduction

“Here goes nothing”, I think to myself as I once again find myself downloading the ever-daunting dating LGBTQIA+ apps that will either be a source of peerless happiness or spiraling doom. Dating is undeniably terrifying. The whole concept of meeting strangers and existence vulnerable with them in the hopes that something comes out of that interaction, be that something a hook-up, a brief or long term bond or maybe just even a friendship, is overwhelmingly bizarre. But the potential of that “something” maybe happening is in and of itself a truly beautiful experience.

I constantly joke around with close friends that I am ready for a relationship. I crave the emotional and physical intimacy that comes with one. My friends, being my most cruel advisors, always say the same thing, “Derek saying you want a partnership is worthless if you don’t put yourself out there. In order to find a relationship, you need to well, date.” And running the exposure of inflating my friends’ egos, they’re right. The only way to detect someone, is by going out to the battlefield we call a “dating pool” (my body convulsed a bit just thinking abou
