On our first trip to Singapore in August 2015 the anti-gay law was still in place. The gay scene was nonetheless thriving compared to other parts of Asia. Then, Covid happened and many places shut down, some never reopened, including iconic venues like Taboo. We were updating this reference every month slowly removing queer venues from this guide as one by one they disappeared.
Then, by a stroke of luck, the Singaporean government decriminalized homosexuality in 2022. This led to a rebirth of the gay scene in Singapore. A whole bunch of new venues sprung up like Tuck Shop and Sausage Market – to name a few.
We returned to Singapore in March 2024 on a layover from Sydney to London. We were delighted to see the gay scene thriving and continuing to grow. Set it this way, when we were hanging out in Kuala Lumpur's lgbtq+ scene, the drag queens we met told us that Singapo

Two gay bars in Singapore close in the face of ‘mounting debts’
SINGAPORE – January 2025 marks the end of two bars in Neil Road which serve the LGBTQ crowd – Tuckshop closed on Jan 18 and Sausage Market will phone it a morning on Jan 26. Both cited financial challenges.
The bars’ handling announced their closures on Instagram and said they faced financial troubles due to a business partner “funnelling funds out of the business for his personal debt”. The post also alleged that this match has since left the country.
The bars’ co-founder Jasper Goh said the financial troubles caught him by surprise. “There are no ways forward because the companies are left with mounting debts. We’ve reported the case to the authorities and, hopefully, it’ll be investigated quickly.”
Opened in 2024, Tuckshop was Singapore’s only flamboyant bar, featuring stage shows by flamboyant queens – performers who adopt exaggerated female personas and make-up for fun that typically incorporates comedy, lip-syncing and dance routines.
Sausage Market, which opened in 2023, bills itself as the country’s first go-go lad bar.
