7 Artists Who Came Out as LGBTQ in 2023: Josh Kiszka, Yung Miami & More
Throughout 2023, pop singer-songwriter Lauv has been exploring his sexuality publicly. It all started in June, when the “I Love Me Better” singer released a TikTok in which he appeared to appear out as not straight. The in-video caption of the clip said “when ur dating a girl but ur also a lil bit into men,” while he elaborated in the video caption. “Does it have to be that big of a deal?” he wrote. “i havent done much aside from kiss so tbh don’t wannna jump the gun but tbh i feel things and i dont wanna pretend i dont. :)”
In July, Lauv posted a six minute “update” to his YouTube channel, in which the singer elaborated on his journey with understanding his sexuality. “More recently in my 20s, I’ve pushed it down a lot, and I felt like it was anxiety. Like, I would feel feelings, or feel a connection and a vibe and whatever, and then I would shut it down,” he said. “I don’t really have any particular answers yet … it’s something that I’m exploring in my music and exploring in my mind, and I’m going to be e
Khalid Comes Out as Male lover After Being Outed Online: ‘I Was Never Hiding’
Khalid is opening up about his sexuality — even if it’s not something he originally intended to speak about.
In a series of posts to his X on Friday (Nov. 22), Khalid officially came out as gay, simply posting a rainbow flag emoji and asking his fans to move on to the “next topic please lol.” When another user followed up for clarification, Khalid confirmed he identified as gay, writing “and that’s okay.”
In another tweet, Khalid made his reasoning behind the posts explicitly clear. “I got outted [sic] and the world still continues to turn,” he wrote. “Let’s get this linear (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me.”
Billboard has reached out to representatives for Khalid for comment.
As reported by Rolling Stone, the outing that Khalid referred to came from a series of since-deleted tweets from X user and recording artist Hugo Almonte. After writing that a “gay R&B singer” had once “tried to position me up and stretch that I
Lil Nas X became a superstar almost overnight when his hit single "Old Town Road" won – and then lost – a see on the Billboard land chart. The song has remained No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 12 weeks in a row. But despite his fame, many people didn't perceive much about the male behind the song.
Late on Sunday night, the last day of Pride Month, Lil Nas X tweeted about "c7osure" – a song from his recent album, "7" — and seemed to reveal something about himself that many people didn't know.
"Some of y'all already know, some of y'all don't concern, some of y'all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y'all to listen closely to c7osure," he tweeted, sharing a short animated clip featuring "c7osure."
The clip starts in black and alabaster and then transforms into a rainbow of colors. It seems Lil Nas X was making an intentional nod to the rainbow Pride flag on the last day of June, the month designated for celebrating the LGBTQ community. The cover art for his new album "7" also has a rainbow on it.
"Deadass consideration i made it obvious," Lil Nas X wrote in another tweet, sharing images of the cover art, in which he's ridin
Khalid Comes Out as Gay After Creature Outed: ‘I Am Not Ashamed’
Khalid is opening up about his sexuality — and making it clear that he’s happy with who he is. In a series of X posts on Friday, the American Teen singer confirmed that he’s male lover after being outed on the platform.
“🏳️🌈!!! there yall go. next topic please lol,” the singer first wrote, using the LGBTQ flag, before responding to a fan to confirm, “I am [gay]! And that’s okay.”
“I got outted and the world still continues to turn,” Khalid continued. “Let’s get this direct (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤.”
The posts came shortly after an X user, Hugo Almonte, went on a posting rampage about the artists he’s had sex with, and wrote that “one of your favorite homosexual R&B singers” once offered him drugs and “tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house.”
Almonte, whose own tune has less than 750 monthly listeners, claimed that the “gay artists that are out right no
Here Are Rappers Who Hug Being Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual
It's no secret that there's been a longstanding stigma when it comes to homosexuality in hip-hop. Some artists have even had their rap careers tarnished by rumors that they were connected to someone of the same sex. As a new generation of hip-hop consumers emerge and artists are living in their truth when it comes to their sexuality, the culture is proving to be more open-minded than ever before.
One of the biggest examples of hip-hop's growth when it comes to LGBTQ+ acceptance is Lil Nas X. The Georgia-bred artist had the biggest song on the planet when he came out on the last day of Pride month in June of 2019. Since then, the "Old Town Road" rhymer has continued to wave the flag for rappers in the queer community, helping drive the movement further into the mainstream.
Young M.A has been forthright about her sexual orientation from the jump, speaking freely about her sexual preferences often in her music. She's even embraced it on a new level, having come out with a line of sex toys called Play NYCe in 2020.
Yung Miami of the Town Girls confirmed her attracted to both genders
