Trump bans gay pride month

President Trump's State Department has enacted a "one flag policy," banning U.S. embassies and overseas missions from flying self-acceptance or Black Lives Matter flags, per TheWashington Free Beacon.

"Starting immediately, only the United States of America flag is authorized to be flown or displayed at U.S. facilities, both domestic and abroad, and featured in U.S. government content," according to the order, a copy of which was obtained by The Beacon. Newsweek has not seen a copy of the order and cannot verify the report.

Newsweek has reached out to the State Department outside of normal hours via online contact form for approval, and will update this article if a response is received.

Why It Matters

The new directive, issued within days of taking office, gives an indication of how Trump will attempt to rollback Biden-era support for left-wing or linear causes during his presidency.

On Monday, Trump signed an executive order terminating all diversity, equity and inclusion programs (DEI) within the federal government. A memo from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management later ordered that all federal DEI employees be placed on paid leave, as the administration

Scared advertisers, flag bans and Trump: the US is in for a troubled Pride 2025

When Utah brought in its pride flag ban, organizer Chad Ring was hardly surprised. On 7 May the US state became the first to explicitly prohibit the flying of LGBTQ+ flags at government buildings and schools; anyone who does so could face fines of $500 a day.

“We live in an incredibly conservative state,” says Phone, executive director of Utah Pride. “It’s disappointing that this is such an important issue to our lawmakers. Unfortunately, we head the nation in anti-LGBTQ legislation.”

Similar Pride month flag bans have been signed into law in Idaho and Montana.“Bigotry is nothing new,” says Donald Williamson, executive director of Idaho’s Boise Pride. “This people has been dealing with targeted legislation for several years now – flags are just the latest. All it does is bond us more closely together and emphasize how important festivals like Celebration are.”

In Salt Lake Town and Boise, which are both Democrat-run, people are already resisting the bans. Salt Lake City has introduced three newly planned flags featuring the city’s traditional sego lily blueprint imposed over a celebration flag, the transgend

Background On Trump Evening One Executive Orders Impacting The LGBTQ+ Community

by Brandon Wolf •

Overview

On his first day in office as the 47th president of the United States, President Trump signed a slew of executive orders (EOs) that impact the LGBTQ+ community, as adv as many others. It is important to note that executive actions do NOT have the authority to override the United States Constitution, federal statutes, or established legal precedent. Many of these directives do just that or are regarding matters over which the president does not own control. Given that, many of these orders will be difficult, if not impossible, to implement, and efforts to do so will be challenged through litigation.

Currently, much is unknown about whether or how the administration or other actors will comply with these directives, and in most instances rules will need to be promulgated or significant administrative guidance will need to be issued in order for implementation to occur. These are processes that seize time and require detailed additional plans to be developed.

Newly Issued Executive Orders

A number of executive behavior yesterday will impact the LGBTQ+ comm

U.S. President Donald Trump has used his first six months in office to enact multiple policies impacting the lives of LGBTQ+ Americans in areas prefer healthcare, legal recognition and education.

On July 17, the government ended the nation's specialised mental health services for Gay youth through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, with the White Residence describing it as a service where "children are encouraged to embrace fundamental gender ideology".

The administration also filed a lawsuit against California this month over state policies that allow transgender female athletes to strive in girls' categories of school sports.

But rights groups are fighting back. Nine LGBTQ+ and HIV-related organisations have had more than $6 million in funding restored following a lawsuit against three of Trump's executive orders.

What action has Trump taken on Queer rights?

Trump started his second term on Jan. 20 by signing an executive order stating the United States would only recognise two sexes - male and female - before scrapping the use of a gender-neutral "X" marker in passports.

He said federal funds would not be used to "promote gender ident

BREAKING: TRUMP ADMINISTRATION REMOVES LGBTQ AND HIV RESOURCES FROM WHITE HOUSE AND OTHER GOVERNMENT WEBSITES

GLAAD: “President Trump claims to be a strong proponent of liberty of speech, yet he is clearly committed to censorship of any facts containing or related to LGBTQ Americans and issues that we face. This action proves the Trump administration’s goal of making it as difficult as possible for LGBTQ Americans to find federal resources or otherwise see ourselves reflected under his presidency. Sadly for him, our community is more noticeable than ever; and this pathetic attempt to diminish and remove us will again prove unsuccessful.”

(January 21, 2025 — New York, NY) — Today GLAAD, the world’s largest sapphic, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media lobbying organization, is breaking news that the Trump administration has eliminated nearly all LGBTQ and HIV focused content and resources from the White House website, as well as eliminated LGBTQ and HIV content from key federal agency webpages.
