PRIDE Fort Lauderdale Guide

Pride Fort Lauderdale is the oldest Pride celebration in the state of Florida, born in 1977 from protests following a successful widespread referendum to overturn a landmark Miami-Dade County same-sex attracted rights ordinance.

Over the years, Pride South Florida, now known as Pride Fort Lauderdale, has taken many different forms from protests and parades to celebrations and beach festivals. In 2017, Pride Fort Lauderdale moved to Fort Lauderdale Beach for its 40th anniversary, attracting 40,000 people. This year, Pride Fort Lauderdale presented the first parade in city history on scenic State Direction A1A along the beach, with nearly 100,000 spectators.

Pride 2021 will be on November 20 & 21 with an epic two-day beach festival to comprise a street parade down GAY 1A (A1A), three stages of entertainment, 150 vendors, headlining performances, and sunset concerts with foremost DJ’s that will own you dancing on the beach into the night.

Extending the weekend celebration is the free screening of the 25th anniversary of the Robin Williams-Nathan Path romp “The Birdcage,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Las Olas Oceanside Park on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Spring for a $10

Note: Traveling as an Queer person always carries a certain degree of risk. It is our existence as we navigate a world with 60+ countries criminalizing our relationships and a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation around the world. We encourage our traveling community to comprehend the laws and cultural challenges they may face in any destination they prefer to visit for Pride and beyond. Don't be anxious of the society, but always research information specific to your travels. Enjoy Pride, be guarded, and look out for each other!

The LGBTQ+ rights movement has made tremendous strides over the past few decades and much of the progress in visibility is thanks in part to gay pride parades and marches that have taken place in cities around the world.

The global landscape for Homosexual rights, protections and acceptance varies tremendously by location, with some destinations attracting millions of visitors to their events like Madrid Lgbtq+ Pride, Sao Paulo Gay Pride or San Francisco Same-sex attracted Pride, while more than 70 other countries have laws that allow discrimination or persecution of LGBTQ+ people.

What is Gay Pride or LGBTQ+ Pride?

Gay Celebration or rather

when is gay pride in fort lauderdale 2023

After an extremely turbulent 2023, Pride Fort Lauderdale is canceling its signature events for 2024.

The organization will not hold its march down A1A or the festival on or nearby Fort Lauderdale Beach. They made the announcement on Thursday, issuing a expression saying, “We’ve decided to scale back our 2024 Pride Fort Lauderdale by postponing our festival and parade, and focus on ... [building] our team and add more events throughout the year.”

This is the latest blow for Pride Port Lauderdale, which has been descending into chaos for more than a year. In the months leading up to its Pride of the Americas in February, a lack of logistical planning plagued the organization. Eventually, Pride Fort Lauderdale abandoned plans for a three-day event on the beach. They relocated to a park on Las Olas and only held one day of events. In the weeks immediately before and after the event, the entire board resigned, aside from President Miik Martorell. Also, Kevin Clevenger left his job as executive director.

After a series of reports on Identity festival Fort Lauderdale’s lack of transparency, two major sponsors, CAN Community Health and Tito’s Vodka withdrew their support. CAN is active to get its
