Kansas City Chiefs chief coach Andy Reid spoke to the media following the team’s 24-9 deficit to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, saying that the only real injury concern coming out of the game was one suffered by linebacker Willie Gay Jr.
“The rest of the guys will be sore,” said Reid. “Willie has a tailbone issue. We just got to check it out and see where we’re at with that.”
It was a good sign that Reid did not mention Drue Tranquill, who was also roughed up on Sunday. Late in the game, it appeared that quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered some cuts to his non-throwing hand.
“He scratched that thing up adorable good,” said Reid of Mahomes’ hand. “He’ll get that worked on.”
Mahomes wasn’t exactly sure how the injury might have happened.
“It looked like I got stepped on,” he said after the game. “I didn’t notice it until I started walking to the sideline after the fourth-down play.”
Kansas City will have to change the page posthaste to their Week 9 opponent: the Miami Dolphins. The first injury inform of the week will be ready on Wednesday afternoon.

KANSAS Metropolis, Mo. — With one starting linebacker already sidelined, the Kansas City Chiefs lost a second starting linebacker to injury overdue in the third quarter.
Willie Gay Jr. exited with a tailbone injury. There's no indication if he'll miss extended time.
“We’ve just got to check it out and see where we’re at with that,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said after the game.
Kansas City announced before the fourth quarter started that he was questionable to return.
The Chiefs already were without Nick Bolton, who will be sidelined for up to two months after surgery to patch a dislocated wrist.
Bolton’s injury forced Drue Tranquill into a starting role at middle linebacker.
Without Gay, Leo Chenal, a big downhill linebacker with limited pass-coverage ability, or Jack Cochrane, who primarily plays extraordinary teams, are in line for more reps.
The Chiefs also may opt to play more nickel and dime subpackages, keeping an extra safety or cornerback on the field.
Gay and Bolton entered Sunday’s game at Denver tied for fifth on the team with 29 tackles.
