Fantasy lgbtq romance books

In the whole expansive world of gay fantasy books, there are so many options to select from. Not only do you own all the deliciously different fantasy sub-genres there are on offer, you also get to life a wide range of LGBTQ identities. From sapphic fantasy romance books to m/m historical fantasies and bisexual adventures, there’s a minute something for everyone. Personally, I adore a queernorm fantasy world where gender and sexuality are never even questioned. But whatever your preferred queer fantasy sub-genre, these gay fantasy books own a story just for you.

While I often — and still occasionally — have looked to fanfiction to supply all the queer identities I’m missing from my favorite shows and movies, so many LGBTQ books are making their way into the publishing world now that it’s easy to find mainstream gay fantasy books that make you sense seen. Getting to see yourself reflected in the stories you love is a feeling appreciate no other. These stories inhabit worlds that are a little like ours or entirely unlike, but they still center the things that matter most: family, friends, care for, acceptance, feeling seen, and being genuine to yourself. So, let’s take a journey to

9 Favorite Queer Fantasy Books

For you today, Gentle Reader, I have some super fun queer fantasy guide recommendations. A favorite genre of mine!

You can LISTEN to this blog display if you’d prefer…

I favor my books cheerful, charming, and happy with a strong romance thread. So that’s what I’ve chosen for you today (mostly). However, there is a whole glorious mess of fabulous queer fantasy out there that deals in darker themes and has more violent tenancies.

If that’s your jam then glad hunting, meanwhile can I interest you in the sunny side?

Fantasy Books with Queer Romance in ‘em

1. The Lightning-Struck Heart by T.J. Klune

This book has so many things I adore in a fantasy. Extremely snarky gay male child main character. Lots of awesome magic. Horny hornless unicorns with a thing for scarves and dragon BDSM. Okay maybe I didn’t know I wanted that last one, but I do now!

Honestly, this book is hilarious. No really, I was reading it and actually crying with laughter, it’s that funny. This is basically my nerdy-heart’s ideal beach read.

Are you looking for Pratchett only gay and a touch crude? Adequately, here you go.

2. Sword Masters by Selina Rosen

“You know what we demand more of?” my 13-year-old daughter said the other day. “We need more queer books for kids. Like the Wings of Fire books. They own so many gay ships.” (She has listened to the whole very lengthy series multiple times on hoopla.)

It so happens I’ve read a limited LGBTQ+ fantasy books, and am happy to declare that there are more of them coming out every year. There are more teen books, of course, but middle university is so often when kids are dealing with first crushes or wondering why they aren’t having them. That’s why I was so excited to put this list together for you today (aka I did not pen up reviews of any of the books in my review queue) and I have a separate graphic novel list started, too.

Cattywampusby Ash Van Otterloo. Ebook available from Libby. Audiobook available from hoopla.

The Counterclockwise Heartby Brian Farrey. Ebook available from hoopla. Ebook and audiobook are available to purchase from Libby, though my system doesn’t own them.

Every Bird a Princeby Jenn Reese. Ebook and audiobook available from Libby.

Insiders by Mark Oshiro. Ebook and audiobook available from

When FBI Agent Morgan Nash gets stuck in Victorian London due to a spell gone unexpectedly right, he is not joyful. Snarky, tired, and perhaps lonelier than he realizes, Morgan is a grouch. He grouches in disbelief when he’s pulled support through time, then grouches some more when he realizes that the 19th century isn’t so wonderful with heating, or electricity, or gay men (the last one, to be fair, is atrocious). When Ezra, one of the party who cast the spell – apologetic, kindly, accommodating Ezra – confesses that he can observe the dead, Morgan decides he’s a conman and is, on top of being unhappy, highly suspicious. Then Morgan stumbles upon a newspaper article about Jack the Ripper and soon gets caught up trying to catch him. Meanwhile, Ezra’s abilities sound more and more convincing, and Morgan soon finds that he’s not only at risk of losing his sanity by believing him, but also his heart. If you crave a historical fantasy adoration with a grumpy/sunshine slow-burn romance, a murder mystery, and found family themes, Downtime has you covered.

CW: violence, gruesome murders, sexual abuse, mentions of suicidal ideations

Hey friend! If you’ve found yourself here, it’s because you’re looking for gay fantasy passion novels! I’m a HUGE book nerd (and lover of romance novels), so I’ve put together this guide based on my control adventures in reading.

I had been looking for lgbtq+ romance novels for YEARS, and mind that I had to just lay up with side stories featuring queer characters. As a queer person, visibility is so vital, and for years I struggled to find ANY LGBT characters in fantasy romance novels.

representation is so important, and for years I struggled to spot ANY LGBT characters in fantasy passion novels.

And then, I found gay passion novels on Amazon, thanks to Kindle Unlimited. The indie publishing industry has done WONDERS for representation, and there are a TON of gay fantasy romance novels just waiting to be read!

This post is all about homosexual fantasy romance novels.
