MSNBC anchor Katy Tur discusses estranged father becoming transgender
MSNBC anchor Katy Tur said she was “puzzled” when her now-estranged father — legendary journalist Bob Tur — told her he was transitioning to change into a woman.
“My dad said, ”I am a woman’,” Katy Tur told CBS Sunday Morning, as she recounted their conversation from nearly a decade ago while promoting her upcoming memoir, “Rough Draft.”
“And I said ‘What?’ And my dad said, ‘I’m a woman, I’m transitioning, I’m going to become a woman’.”
The 38-year-old journalist is the daughter of media power couple Marika Gerrard and Zoey Tur — who before transitioning to become a woman gained fame as the helicopter cameraperson who was the first to film pivotal events in Los Angeles, including the 1992 riots and the OJ Simpson police chase in 1994.
Gerrard, a retired disseminate journalist and photographer, and Tur went on to co-found the Los Angeles News Service.

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur was clearly disgusted as she lambasted President Trump for breaking his promises to the LGBTQ community, saying they were only made to deliver his voters cover from accusations of homophobia.
Tur citing a memo obtained by the New York Times indicating that under the proposed policy, "a person's gender would be defined by their genitalia at birth and could not be changed unless it was disputed by genetic testing."
"It stands in stark contrast to a assure the president of the United States himself made while he was campaigning in 2016," she said, cutting to footage of then-candidate Trump saying he would "do everything in [his] power to safeguard our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology."
"He came out at a rally in Colorado and waved around a rainbow flag," Tur remarked sarcastically to co-host Ali Velshi. "It was an effort to give people justification, a bit of cover when people claimed that Donald Trump was not for LGBTQ people."
