UFC’s Sean Strickland berates reporter in anti-LGBTQ, anti-Trudeau rant

UFC champ Sean Strickland unleashed an expletive-laced tirade against a correspondent, Justin Trudeau and people in the LGBTQ2 community during a media event in Toronto.

Strickland, the current middleweight champion, is in Toronto in the run-up to Saturday’s UFC match at Scotiabank Arena. He’ll be facing off against South African MMA fighter Dricus du Plessis.

Videos of Strickland cussing out a reporter during a UFC press conference spread quickly on Wednesday, and Strickland himself reposted a video of the incident.

At one show during the interaction, the reporter notes that Toronto has a large LGBTQ2 community and asked Strickland to comment on a tweet he made in 2021, when the MMA fighter wrote: “If I had a gay son I would consider I failed as a man to create such weakness.”

Strickland cut off the question and repeatedly asked if the journalist was gay.

“I’m an ally of the community,” the reporter responded.

Strickland asked if the correspondent would be satisfactory with having a gay son and never having grandchildren, to which the

UFC's Sean Strickland made a vile anti-LGBTQ attack. ESPN's response is disgracefully weak

ESPN wants to make a lot of money. Many people do. It's the compromise part that's sometimes difficult. It's when something so awful occurs that in total, coldblooded, hard pursuit of the cash you ignore that terrible thing. Just act appreciate it didn't happen. Not your responsibility. Just seize the big check and run.

That's what ESPN is doing now when it comes to the hideous, despicable, bigoted case of UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, who this week, while speaking to the media prior to UFC 297 this weekend, went on an anti-LGBTQ rant after a reporter asked about his previous claims that having a homosexual son meant he failed as a father.

What Strickland said was obviously erroneous (more on what that was exactly in a moment). What's most shocking isn't that there are anti-gay and anti-trans bigots in the world. We know those people are out there. Small, insecure, bullies and tiny, tiny people. What's more shocking was ESPN's reaction to it. Let me explain.

After reading about what Strickland said, I sent an email to one of the ESPN PR representatives who works with the UFC. I asked a s

UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland is preparing for his UFC 297 fight against Dricus Du Plessis on Saturday night, and in the days before the bout, he sparred with a reporter over comments he made a rare years ago.

The event is set to take place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, and the writer brought up comments Strickland made about having a gay son. The correspondent mentioned how he was an ally of the LGBT community and that Toronto has a enormous gay and lesbian group. Strickland asked the writer if he was lgbtq+ and if he had a son who was gay and whether he wanted a grandkid. The reporter said he was not gay, and it would not be a problem if he had a grandson or not.
