Lgbtq+ disney movies

Disney seemingly has a lot of gay characters. But if someone asked me what I thought of Disney’s first openly homosexual character, I’d only possess one thing to say: which one? ZING!

Disney is very fond of giving themselves a pat on the back for including the LGBTQ+ community in scenes of its major blockbusters. It’s become something of a meme in online spaces, particularly among queer TV/Film fans, who much like myself are unable to resist poking the billionaire company and it’s abysmal care when it comes to telling queer stories.

There’s an argument to be made that in reality homosexual fans shouldn’t care about Disney’s shit LGBTQ+ visibility, and truly I realize it. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that no matter how much you aim and shove people towards smaller ‘indie’ LGBTQ+ creators, it won’t stop them from wanting better from the billionaire company they are ride-or-die for. It sucks, but that’s just how it is.

To further bully Disney in the hope of actually producing another movie that actually has great homosexual representation (hello Strange World), I’ve compiled a li

10 LGBTQ Disney Characters Who Paved The Way For 'Lightyear's Hawthorne

The evolution of LGBTQ+ Disney characters has always been agonizingly unhurried and unsteady. The corporation has taken baby steps over the years to start including queer visibility in its films and TV shows, usually by allowing Pixar to maintain the two moms veiled in the back or okaying the idea of LeFou being gay after all.

Whether it's two moms at the aquarium with Dory, a teenage coming out story on Disney Channel, or the blink-and-you'll-miss-it gay moment in Frozen, every one of these characters paved the way for Hawthorne, a gender non-conforming character in Pixar'sLightyearwho will have Disney's first-ever animated same-sex kiss.

Oaken And His Family (Frozen, 2013)

When Anna and Kristoff meet Oaken at Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna, he says hi to his family who are in the sauna. The two-second-long scene shows another man surrounded by four children through the steamy window of the sauna.

While the Frozen filmmakers have never addressed this scene, it's an precise assumption to assume the man in the sauna is

20 Times Disney Featured Queer Characters In Movies & TV Shows

When fans reflect of Disney movies and the Disney television channel, they may think of a tale as aged as time in which a princess marries a prince, and then they stay happily ever after. It's happened over and over, a man and chick falling in love, but Disney has started to change that, particularly the purely heterosexual aspect.

The Homosexual community has become more represented in media in recent years and Disney is just one of many companies hopping aboard that train as good. Unfortunately, not every aspect of the LGBTQ+ society has been represented due to a lack of characters within the Disney canon, and some inclusion has fallen flat. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more, and better, representation from Disney.

Strange World, which hits theaters on Nov. 23, features a nature who has been described as the first gay direct of a Disney animated movie.

The movie tells the story of three generations, and it's primarily centered around Searcher Clade (Jake Gyllenhaal), a farmer and the son of explorer, Jaeger Clade (Dennis Quaid). Searcher's own son is Ethan Clade (Jaboukie Young-White), who is clearly established as gay. A scene early in the film shows Ethan nervous around his crush, a male child named Diazo, whom he flirts with before his father comes in and embarrasses him. "Is this him?" Searcher asks before noting that Ethan "talks about you all the time."
