Indigenous Actress Anna Lambe speak about her project

Anna Lambe is an Inuk actress, writer, and director with a fresh and influential voice, breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes at every shift . She has taken on some unreal roles many of which confront the harsh realities of Indigenous experiences.
Can you tell us about your journey into acting and how you discovered your passion for the craft?
I was 15 years old, living in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. My drama teacher had presented this opportunity to audition for a workshop, which would then lead to an audition for a film entity shot in Iqaluit called “The Grizzlies”. She came up to me afterward and urged me to try it, saying she consideration it was something I might savor . I threw my name into the auditions for the workshop, very nearly backing out. I had spent 5 days doing this workshop with other Inuit youth, making friends, and conclusion my footing in the world of acting and acting. Doing everything right in her small Arctic town is what Siaja (Anna Lambe) does finest. But even this, even her very best is subject to belittlement (from friends and family). Married straight out of tall school to Ting (Kelly William) is the town’s golden boy. He’s the one everyone praises. Now as her daughter is in school and teaching about independence, Siaja is ready to step out, she wants to locate a job. This doesn’t go as plan and Siaja keeps making being good until her husband doesn’t care that she falls into the liquid in what is a scary experience.

TV: What has the transition from your Arctic hometown to the Hollywood limelight been like?
Every new room I enter feels a bit surreal. In particular within the past two years, it’s been so incredible to be in spaces that I never would have imagined I’d be—like being at a premiere in Los Angeles for True Detective or going to the Emmys and seeing Meryl Streep in the flesh. There are things I peek back on and I’m like, “Oh my god, that actually happened.” Coming into this career, I didn’t really have a set plan and instead am just open to whatever happens and whatever comes—so all of it is such a pleasant surprise. For example, later today, we’re going to go see the North of North billboard in Times Square [in Fresh York City]. I’m actually kind of afraid of the big things that I’m feeling in my heart; all of this is so much more real than I could have ever imagined.
TV: What does it mean to you to bring real Inuit culture to the screen?

There are a number great television shows out there that have helped TV audiences learning and relate to cultures other than their own. One reveal in particular that premiered on the 2025 Netflix schedule – North of North – has stepped into that ring. And the star Anna Lambe spoke to CinemaBlend about what a joy it is to share the Inuk culture with the world.
Lambe, who grew up in the same place that the serieswas filmed, spoke with me regarding the surprising success of North of North. The actress spoke that it’s “special” to share her home with viewers, and has loved seeing people “fall in love” with the north that she knows, saying the public can appreciate what she always has. Netflix's new comedyNorth of North is a lighthearted, feel-good series that gives viewers a sweet peek into Inuit culture in the Arctic Circle. The streaming giant's first Canadian first series, co-produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in partnership with the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), the eight-episode reveal takes place in the fictional town of Ice Cove, Nunavut, Canada. When Siaja (Anna Lambe), a 26-year-old Inuk woman and mother, sets out to change her life, she turns her extremely close-knit town upside down.
To cast the series, creators Stacey Aglok-MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril recruited a cast of Indigenous actors from around the globe, including several hailing from the matching northern town that inspired Ice Cove. Read on to learn more about the talented cast of North of North.
