As an older gay guy I find the pubs in Northampton disappointing and unwelcoming. I travel to either Birmingham or London at the weekend for more equitable company and bars that realise that gay men over the age of 25 exist.

I agree with Sean. Gay pubs in Northampton, not very friendly and the 'local' clientele believe they know every queer person in a town with a population of 220,000. I agree with Sean, there are much better nicer places to drink, with a superior 'mixed' more educated crowd.

I've worked in a very big, straight nightclub in Northampton with a variety of people from the ages of 18 to 45.
With the women it's a question of: "I've got a gay friend, his name's Steve, execute you know him?" That's one of the typical things that come out.
It's so f****** annoying.
But it probably shows how much people still perceive it to be. You're either a Graham Norton or a Dale Winton. That's annoying.
It's great to have gay stuff on telly now, but it's still very stereotypical and I hate that.

The gay scene anywhere is very manipulative. I think that is the huge, big problem - because it is still shut away, because we are still scared of bashings or homophobic attacks or whatever.
I think the gay scene needs to be opened out. People demand to see it, so people are aware of what goes on.
The scene didn't scar me, but it definitely had some effect of my life. If I knew more about it early on, I'd have been so much more cautious.

In recent years, in co-ordination with Northampton Borough Council, the Northampton LGBTQ and Allies Forum have helped to create a number of social events for the community. Northampton has had an official event to stamp Pride each year since 2018. A larger Pride weekend and parade was planned for 2020, but cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandem
