Other than the gay comedy, more of that later, the only acheivement of this film would be that it helps interval a stereotypical image we’ve had all along about Karan Johar films that they are all about rona-dhona-aur-pyaar. In Dostana there is no Karan Johar signature except those that come before the clip begins where he says he is missing his family and the proof that the entire clip is shot in a foreign country. There is no heavy sentiment, ultra dramatic scenes etc, the film delivers most of what the trailers pledge. Yes, it delivers same-sex attracted comedy in huge doses and episodes of entertainment, but unfortunately the trio have nothing memorable to tell about their donstana.
Kunal (Abhishek Bachchan) and Sam (John Abraham) are two cool dudes, the first a photographer and the latter a nurse. So cool that they both sleep with girls in the same house, arise up, introduce each other over juice and cereal and go by their day. I am going to launch this post with a confession — I was ten years old when "Dostana" first came out and the only memory I have is of the film making headlines on every news channel. That was when my extraordinarily smart brain went, "Hahahahahha, look at how these news channels are spelling the word 'guy' wrong". This was something I proclaimed to everyone and their mother.
So here we go: A glistening, well-oiled, and super-tanned John Abraham appears!
We're introduced to Sam (Abhishek Bachchan), who is a nurse because he likes giving sponge baths — really weird reason to go to med school, if you ask me. Kunal, on the other hand, is a photographer.
I am ten minutes into the feature and I am yet to see this guy wear proper clothes.
This film really set out to give the gays what they want!
On that note:
Sam and Kunal are looking for a new apartment and both of them somehow end up in the same place. And only in the DCU (Dharma Cinematic Universe) can a nurse and a photographer afford a property that has a fantastic view of the Miami skyline and comes with an indoor pool and concierge service.
Kunal and Sam are justifiably bummed out and go and feast hotdogs. Why?

I WENT to watch Dostana with loads of apprehension: two reasons – just the other time I had seen the film Fashion, which was so shabby in its portrayal of gay characters who are once again stereotyped, emotionally abused and abjectly pushed into a heterosexual marriage option (eek, really), I was thinking can't Indian filmmakers ever come out with one decent gay portrayal?

I have lost my angelic eye. May be twenty years of constant interaction with art and its related theories has made me look at things in their stark symbolism. Anything and everything reach with an ideological undercurrent. Things are not as innocent as apparently they appear.
Watching Bollywood movies is a favorite hobby for me like any other Indian.
